Connect a Provider

Connect harnesses/providers and verify they are ready in ctx

Overview

Provider access is configured from workspace settings. Most users should connect one provider first, run a small task successfully, and add more providers later.

Connect flow

  1. Open your workspace.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Open Harness Authentication.
  4. Connect the harness or provider you plan to use first.
  5. Finish the required auth flow.
  6. Return to the workbench.
  7. Open the composer harness and model selector and verify availability.

Depending on the provider, the auth flow may open a browser sign-in or ask for API credentials. Use whichever method your provider supports in your setup.

Readiness checklist

  • Harness shows as available.
  • Authentication is active.
  • Model list loads.
  • Simple test prompt completes.

If authentication breaks

  • Re-open Harness Authentication and reconnect.
  • Confirm your local environment still has required auth context.
  • Re-run a small test prompt before starting real work.

Practical guidance

  • Keep one stable default harness configured.
  • Add additional providers only after baseline flow is stable.
  • Re-verify provider status after updates.
  • If you are evaluating ctx for the first time, avoid switching harnesses mid-setup.
